Creating St Leonards

05/08/1853

“Building operations on a very large scale are contemplated on the Eversfield estate, the whole of which, comprising about 400 acres, is about to be laid out for terraces, detached villas, pleasure grounds, etc. The ground is to be let on long building leases.” Area extends from the west of St Leonards round to the east, including Gensing. “We are glad to see a probability of detached villas becoming more numerous in this borough, as they will tend to encourage the creation of a valuable class of inhabitants – namely, resident gentry.”
