Flooding on 11 April in St Andrews due to heavy rainfall. It appears that both penstocks near the Queens Hotel were kept closed during the night and this was the cause of the flood.

Esplanade Opens

The West Marina esplanade was opened on Wednesday 12 June. The new parade was 2,000 feet in length, with an average width of 50 ft. The wall on the sea side was 15 feet thick at the foundation.
The foundation stone of Mount Pleasant Church was laid on Thursday 4 July, and the new Lecture Hall opened.
The remaining portion of the Mount Pleasant Estate was sold off at the Castle Hotel on 15 July. About 70 of the 83 plots were in sites in St Marys Road, and the rest in Quarry Road, Manor Road and ...

New Footbridge

The old wooden footbridge over the railway leading from St Marys Terrace to Mount Pleasant had been replaced by a new, more substantial bridge.
Building workers had gone on strike following a notice issued by 17 of the town's 76 building firms that they were going to cut the hourly rate of pay. Plasterers would be cut a penny to 7d, and carpenters, labourers ...
