Memorial Clock

The Council considered stopping the chimes of the Albert Memorial clock from 11 pm to 6 am. The News reported on 13 February that they had agreed to stop the chimes for a trial period of three months.
Patrick Robertson, of Halton House, the former Conservative MP for Hastings, died, aged 77. He had given his name to Robertson Street and Robertson Terrace (where he carried out large-scale development, and to Robertson's Hill (where Halton House stood).

The workhouse Board of Guardians agreed that there was a need for a new workhouse.
New Albertine

A new pleasure boat called The Albertine was being built.
It was proposed that there should be a new hospital at White Rock on site of the existing one [now the site of the White Rock Theatre]. A meeting of the Board of Governors discussed the matter.
Railway Footbridge

A new drinking fountain was to be placed on the Parade opposite the Pier.
The Council turned down the offer from the Misses Brisco of the Beau Site house in White Rock Gardens near the Infirmary. They suggest it be a convalescent home for the poor. The Observer of 13 February 1886 reported that ...

New Harbour Idea

A meeting was held on 13 August to consider a proposal to make a harbour for Hastings.
A meeting of the Hastings Board of Guardians ended in disorder after it was heard that there were numerous complaints about bad and insufficient food at the workhouse.
Water Problem
