The little burial ground situated on the Guestling [Winchelsea] Road and known as the Ore Parish Cemetery was to be closed from 30 August for general public interments, on order from the Local Government Board. “This action is the outcome of the public agitation at Ore sometime ago, with reference to the bad condition of the cemetery. … Amongst the poorest people in the parish much regret is felt at this unavoidable action, as now practically all interments will have to be at the Borough Cemetery, where the  burial fees, etc, are several times larger than they were at the little cemetery” But closure was warranted because the ground was now full and recent burials had taken place in footpaths. There were certain exceptions for widows, widowers and family graves. A survey of the cemetery found it to be neglected, in very poor condition, lacking care and attention, with the graves scarcely distinguishable, and many occupied by rats
